A Walk Down Memory Lane: The Day My Scrubs Became My Identity
Share
There are some moments in life that quietly change who you are forever.
For me, that moment came in 2005, when I wore my operating room scrubs for the very first time—with my name embroidered on them.
I still remember looking at myself before stepping into the operating theatre. They were just a pair of scrubs, or so I thought. But in that instant, they became so much more. They gave me a profound sense of purpose, identity, and belonging. For the first time, I truly felt that I was part of something far greater than myself.
From that day onward, those scrubs represented an unspoken promise.
A promise to be accountable for every decision.
A promise to keep learning.
A promise to stand by my patients in their most vulnerable moments.
And above all, a promise to do everything within my ability to help save lives.
Every healthcare professional remembers that first day—the excitement, the nervousness, the pride, and the overwhelming realization that someone's life may soon depend on your knowledge, your judgment, and your compassion.
Over the years, I've come to realize that scrubs are far more than medical apparel.
They are an identity.
They are a symbol of years of sacrifice, relentless training, sleepless nights, and unwavering commitment.
They carry the weight of responsibility, yet they also remind us why we chose this profession in the first place.
Today, as the co-founder of The Scrub Zone, every collection we create is inspired by that very emotion. We don't simply design scrubs—we design garments that honour the professionals who wear them. Clothing that allows them to move with confidence, perform with comfort, and carry their identity with pride.
Because every time you put on your scrubs, you're not just getting dressed for work.
You're wearing your purpose.
And that is a responsibility—and a privilege—that never fades.
